Poe Springs restoration benefits many!
During February and March of 2005, the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department facilitated three restoration workshops. The workshops drew people from as far away as West Palm Beach. The 140 participants planted over 800 trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants.
"No mowing zones" were established along the river to allow native vegetation to act as a filter, trapping pollutants from the watershed. Natural materials were used to stabilize banks and prevent erosion. Educational signs have since been installed to explain the restoration strategy to the public. |
